Bayanihan executive judges at international dance tilt

PHOTO shows Bayanihan Executive Director Suzie Moya-Benitez (right) with Tomeu Bosch, festival director of World Dance Competition in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and Niño Lauretta, festival director of the Int'l Folklore Festival in Agrigento, Sicily during a break at the recent Cheonan Heungtaryeong Festival where they were members of the board of judges.

Bayanihan Executive Director Suzie Moya-Benitez was a judge at the recently held Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Competition in South Korea. With Ms. Benitez in the board of judges were Tomeu Bosch, festival director of World Dance Competition in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Niño Lauretta, festival director of the International Folklore Festival in Agrigento, Sicily.

The Huengtaryeong Festival is the most popular in the city and featured aside from dance competitions, concerts, street parade, products fairs and other cultural events.

Agrigento, Sicily and Palma de Mallorca, Spain are important places in the annals of Bayanihan’s history. The National Folk Dance Company of the Philippines was a recipient of the Gold Temple award in the 47th International Folklore Festival in Agrigento, Sicily and again in 2005, it garnered the Festival’s golden anniversary Gold Temple award, besting all previous Gold Temple awardees. It was in Palma de Mallorca, Spain where Bayanihan was awarded the World Prize “Primer Premi Mundial” during the World Folk Dance Festival in 2007.
